How do I price a whole lot, like a shelf of books or a box of records?
Short answer
Find the two or three pieces that carry the value, price those on their own, and sell the rest as a bulk lot at a dollar or two each. Most lots are 80 percent filler.
Pull the value out first
Records: check the pressing and condition on Discogs; a first pressing in clean shape can be worth the whole box. Books: first editions, signed copies, Newfoundland history and out-of-print textbooks sell separately. Everything else is a lot.
Bulk the rest
Paperbacks, common LPs and hardcover fiction are $1 to $3 each locally at best. A boxed lot at $20 to $40 moves in days; 40 individual listings never finish.
